CHILD CARE FEES TO JUMP 22 PER CENT BUT GOV KEEPS STALLING

Australian parents are set to pay the price for Malcolm Turnbull’s child care inaction, with reports today revealing fees are set to jump 22 per cent by 2019-20.

The Government’s own figures show that long day care fees are set to spiral higher and Malcolm Turnbull’s proposed changes will do nothing to stop the increases.

“Malcolm Turnbull just doesn’t understand the financial pressures Australian families are facing,” Acting Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Development, Doug Cameron, said.

“When parents can’t afford to go back to work it’s a massive blow to household budgets and a kick in the guts for our struggling economy.

“Parents are already facing long waiting lists and expensive fees, and now the Government has admitted it will only get worse.

“Claims the Government have tried to pass child care changes are complete rubbish and only insult families further.

“Malcolm Turnbull hasn’t even brought his own child care legislation on for debate and senior Liberals have themselves admitted linking the changes to Family Tax Benefit is just a political tactic – one they haven’t used in any other area.

“They’re linked... for political purposes.”

“It’s time Malcolm Turnbull stopped holding families to ransom. Parents are sick of excuses and delays.

“On the current timetable a child born when the Liberals promised more affordable child care will be in school before anything changes – that’s how out of touch Malcolm Turnbull is with the real life.”
