Early education and care has rightfully been transferred back to the education portfolio – where it has always belonged.
Early education and care should have never been moved out of the education portfolio.
It was a backwards step that failed to acknowledge the overwhelming evidence of the importance of early education.
This announcement is a positive step – now it is up to the new Education Minister to do what the previous Social Services Minister would not, and tell Australian families how many of them will be worse off under the Government's child care changes, and how many children will be pushed out of receiving the enormous benefits of early education.
