FEDERAL TASMANIAN LIBERALS NEED TO GROW A BACKBONE AND STAND UP FOR GONSKI

Children with disability and their families deserve better than the total inaction of Tasmanian Federal MPs to stand up for their education, with more evidence - this time from their own state Liberal counterparts - that Tasmania needs Labor's Gonski reforms.

The Tasmanian Education Minister's own taskforce came to the conclusion that students with disability need the full implementation of the Gonski reforms.

Instead of standing up for Tasmania, Andrew Nikolic, Greg Hutchinson and Brett Whiteley have been silent while Tony Abbott has ripped over $682 million from Tasmanian schools over the next decade, and walked away from the signed Gonski agreement.

"It’s time the Federal Liberals in Tasmania took their head out of the sand - they need to stop protecting Christopher Pyne and Tony Abbott and start to stand up for schools in their state," Shadow Minister for Education Kate Ellis said.

"The Government's savage cuts will impact every student in every school in Tasmania, hitting the students who need the most help the hardest.

“The evidence is here in black and white – Tasmanian students need Gonski, and they need the Federal Liberals to grow a backbone and stand up for the state."
