INSTEAD OF A REVIEW INTO RURAL EDUCATION, JUST STOP THE CUTS

Instead of wasting money on a review into rural education, the Liberals and Nationals should just stop their cuts.

They’ve cut childcare support that will leave one in three families worse off, threatening country childcare centres with closure.

They’ve cut billions of dollars from rural schools which will mean fewer teachers, less one-on-one attention, and students left behind.

They’ve cut billions of dollars from vocational education and TAFE, hitting country areas hard, and they’ve let apprentice numbers plummet by up to 40 per cent.

They’ve cut millions of dollars from rural universities, including infrastructure, and want to make students pay $100,000 for a degree.

They’ve cut successful training and employment programs such as Youth Connections and group training organisations that were getting unemployed people in country areas into jobs.

If the Liberals and Nationals want to know why rural education is suffering, they don’t need an inquiry, they need a mirror.
