2012 | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 200823 Feb 2009 - Rudd Government Delivers $156,000 to Upgrade Prospect Gallery, Studio & George Whittle Skate Park
The Rudd Labor Government has today signed off on $156,000 to upgrade Prospect Gallery and Studio and George Whittle Skate Park to increase public use - as part of our investment to support jobs and boost the local economy.
Minister Albanese announced the funding from the $800 million Community Infrastructure Program - the single largest investment in local infrastructure in Australia's history.
"The City of Prospect will receive $156,000 to upgrade the George Whittle Skate Park with a new concrete surface, reconstruct the interior of the Prospect Gallery which will enhance usability, install new flooring to the Gallery and renovate the Studio.
"Without federal funding, projects like this would have remained in the 'too-hard' basket."
Ms Ellis today said she was delighted to see funding announced so quickly for the local community.
"An important part of my job is to make representations in Canberra - to ensure local projects like this get the recognition and support they deserve.
"Not only will the residents of Prospect directly benefit from this project - the investment is a great way to generate construction activity helping to stimulate the economy.
"I'm hoping this will be the beginning of many more of these projects to follow in the local community."
Mr Albanese said that the Rudd Government is determined to act decisively with local communities to support jobs and improve the quality of local infrastructure.
"More than 3,600 projects have been submitted under the first round of the Community Infrastructure Program and the Rudd Government is getting on with the job of rolling out projects in local communities."
Ms Ellis concluded, "The Council will receive a contract shortly. I encourage them to sign and return it as quickly as possible so funds can be released."
