The Minister for Sport Kate Ellis MP joined local Member Chris Hayes and Mayor Russell Matheson to inspect the site of the redevelopment.
"This stadium is an iconic venue for the local community," Ms Ellis said. "The funding will transform the stadium and adjoining facilities into one of the premier sporting precincts in Western Sydney.
Mr Hayes added: "Delivering this election commitment will make a great difference to a range of sports, players and fans in our community."
Mr Hayes said the upgrade will significantly improve the facilities for many sports including rugby league, soccer and rugby union that use the stadium - from grassroots through to the elite level.
"It's important to have locals like Chris advocating for his community and it is great to be out here today to see this significant commitment kick off," said Ms Ellis.
"This investment means that the next generation of sporting stars will have a better stadium to play at and better facilities where the community can watch their sporting heroes play said Mr Hayes."
The upgrade will deliver a range of benefits to the Stadium and grounds, including:
- additional seating for up to 5,000 people, bringing total seating to more than 13,500 and its total capacity to more than 24,000;
- full refurbishment of player facilities;
- lift access in the western grandstand allowing people with a disability to access all seating levels;
- an upgrade of the western grandstands catering and toilet facilities; and
- an electronic portable screen.
The total cost of the Stage Two redevelopment is expected to be $11 million, with the Campbelltown City Council contributing to the project.
