2012 | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 200801 Jul 2008 - $1.2 Million to Support Small Business
From today small businesses in the Adelaide will receive a boost with the Rudd Government providing $1.2 Million to the Eastside BEC to provide one-stop small business advisory services.
The funding is part of a $42 million Federal Government support package for small business advisory centres in suburban, rural and regional Australia.
Minister for Small Business Dr Craig Emerson said the funding would help one-stop small business advisory centres expand the services they provide to the East Adelaide small business community.
"This funding delivers on our pre-election commitment to help strengthen and expand the capacity of Business Enterprise Centres to help small business debutantes and those already in operation," Dr Emerson said.
Member for Adelaide, Kate Ellis welcomed the funding saying the small business sector in (region name) had been vocal in their call for one-stop business advice centres.
"People starting out in small business in particular have a lot to contend with," Kate Ellis said.
"In addition to their business speciality small business owners need to be accountants, people managers, payroll and logistics experts.
"Our local advisory service can lend a helping hand by providing invaluable business information such as legal, tax, accounting and marketing advice to those who ask for it."
The new $42 million small business program is part of the Government's overall business strategy that includes:
- cutting red tape in 27 areas of business regulation
- cracking down on powerful businesses engaging in predatory pricing in their dealings with small business
- investing in education and skills development; and
- providing tax relief for small business owners.
"Whether they are sole traders, in partnerships or receive wages or dividends from small businesses, promised tax cuts are good news for business," Dr Emerson said.
"Most small business operators stand to benefit, as around 60 per cent of all businesses had a turnover of less than $200,000 in June 2006.
"Business operators with taxable incomes up to $180,000 will receive up to $50 per week in tax cuts in 2008-09 and up to $91 per week the year after.
"This tax relief will provide more reward for effort to our nation's two million small businesses."
