Internet boost for a thousand SA small businesses
The Member for Adelaide Kate Ellis has welcomed a $14 million Rudd Government investment that will see more than a thousand SA small businesses go online or lift their Internet presence.
Adelaide's Inner West Business Enterprise Centre will get $230,000 to help at least 150 small business operators make the most of the Internet.
TAFE SA will receive $440,000 to run education programs for about 860 small businesses.
Small Business Minister Craig Emerson and Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson announced that 47 small business support groups across Australia will share in the Rudd Government's $14 million Small Business Online program, which has been extended to target tourism operators.
About 95% of Australian small businesses are connected to the Internet, yet only 57% have a website.
"The support we're offering to small businesses in SA will help them establish or upgrade their websites and take full advantage of the National Broadband Network," Ms Ellis said.
"The National Broadband Network will be a powerful tool for small businesses in SA, providing them with fresh opportunities to lower their costs and extend their market reach.
"With this funding, workshops and coaching will be available to small business operators, particularly in the tourism industry, to help them capitalise on new communications technology."
Grants ranging from $50,000 to $700,000 have been awarded to help small businesses better engage in e-business, reduce costs and improve market opportunities.
The groups will target the tourism industry, in line with the Government's National Long-Term Tourism Strategy.
"Visitors to South Australia want comprehensive online information about the tourism experience on offer. Through this funding, SA businesses can be innovative and ensure they can compete in the competitive tourism market."
