Gippsland Youth have their say
The Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis, attended the Australian Youth Forum (AYF) Outreach event in Sale, giving a voice to young Australians across the Gippsland.
Ms Ellis is holding outreach forums to connect with young people across Australia, and to engage with young people on local community concerns.
"We have set an ambitious, innovative youth agenda that is based on getting young people involved in public debate on issues that affect their communities and the nation," Ms Ellis said.
"The AYF is about widespread engagement of young Australians across the country. Outreach forums and meetings provide young people living in regional areas with an opportunity to get together where they live, in their own community, and discuss important current issues, national and local."
Young people from across the region were able to meet with local and Federal politicians before attending the One Night Stand a Triple J music concert held in Sale on the same date.
At the forum young people had the opportunity to discuss employment and jobs and violence and safety, and also local issues in their area with direct access to the Minister and Mayor of Wellington Shire Council, Cr Darren McCubbin.
The outcomes of this and other AYF Outreach events will be reported on via the Australian Youth Forum website www.youth.gov.au/ayf.
