Child care vacancy information just a click away
The Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care, Kate Ellis, today announced new features on mychild.gov.au that will help parents easily access child care vacancy information online.
The Minister demonstrated the new mychild capabilities at the Binara Early Childhood Centre in Canberra today.
"From today - with one click - parents will be able to get up-to-date information on child care vacancies at centres across Australia offering long day care, family day care, occasional, outside school hours and vacation care," Ms Ellis said.
"The inclusion of this information on mychild will make it easier for parents to compare services and make informed choices about the best care to meet the particular needs of their family.
"The site also has a handy Google mapping function so that parents can find child care centres on a map and see a 'street view'.
The announcement delivers on the Government's election commitment to provide families with access to better quality information about child care services.
"Providing accessible, affordable and high quality early childhood education and care for all Australian families is a key priority for the Australian Government.
"The experts have told us that the first five years of a child's life are instrumental to their lifelong health and happiness and we want to help all parents to access high quality care.
"That's why we're working hard with the State and Territories to deliver a National Quality Agenda which is focussed on lower staff-to-child ratios, higher qualifications for staff, tougher quality standards for services and a rating system so that parents can make informed choices about where they send their kids.
The new features further enhance mychild a comprehensive childcare hub which includes information on locations, fees, services and early learning programs via a searchable database of more than 8000 child care providers.
