Sixty new long day care places at Milperra
Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care Kate Ellis and NSW Minister for Education Verity Firth today announced the provider of a new Early Learning and Care Centre at Milperra.
The new centre will be built on the grounds of the Milperra Public School and will be operated by SDN Children's Services.
"We're looking forward to seeing great results for children and families in the Milperra area in partnership with SDN Children's Services," Ms Ellis said.
"The first few years of a child's life set them on a road to adulthood we want that road to take them to good health, education and social development," Ms Ellis said.
The centre will provide approximately 60 new long day care places and will offer high quality early learning and care programs for children aged under six. The centre will also offer six outside school hours places for school age children.
The Australian Government is investing $1.6 million to build the new Milperra centre.
Ms Firth welcomed the announcement, saying the centre will help children make a smooth transition to school.
"Building Early Learning and Care Centres on school grounds means children will feel part of the broader school community as they grow," said Ms Firth.
"Early childhood education is so important to the social, emotional and educational growth of children. Studies show quality early childhood experiences can overcome disadvantage and set children on the path to a happy and healthy life," she said.
This centre is one of eleven Early Learning and Care Centres to be established in New South Wales, including one Autism-specific centre.
The Milperra centre is due to open by the end of this year as part of the Government's $114.5 million plan to establish Early Learning and Care Centres at 38 priority locations across Australia.
