Young Australians urged to show their creative talent
The Minister for Youth Kate Ellis is encouraging young Australians to Live It Now by entering the National Talent Competition, ahead of National Youth Week.
"The National Talent Competition calls on young people across Australia to showcase their creative talents in areas of music, writing, filmmaking, photography and graphic design," Ms Ellis said.
"The competition will help unearth some of Australia's most dynamic new musicians, writers, filmmakers, photographers and designers."
The competition opens today and there are five categories - RockIT, WriteIT, ShootIT, SnapIT, and DesignIT, and two divisions - junior (12-17 years) and senior (18-25 years). There are two chances to win in each category the Industry Award and People's Choice Award.
Thousands of dollars of great prizes are up for grabs, including digital SLR cameras, notebook computers, home audio systems and hand-held cameras.
The Industry Awards are chosen by experts in each creative field, while the People's Choice Awards will be decided through an online poll where people can vote for their favourite from short-listed entries.
This year's Industry Judges include author Tara Moss, photographer Ken Duncan, Tropfest winner Genevieve Clay, and graphic designers Trevor Flett and Andrew Hoyne.
People aged 12-25 can also enter the Win Free Stuff Competition by answering simple questions online.
Entries for both the National Talent Competition and Win Free Stuff Competition close at 5pm AEST on 30 April, with winners announced in June.
Competition entry details and other National Youth Week information can be found at youthweek.com.
National Youth Week is Australia's largest celebration of young people and will be held from 10 18 April. This year's theme is Live it Now.
