Ms Ellis and Ms Jackson visited the sports centre in Lesmurdie along with the Kalamunda Shire President, Don McKechnie and Chief Executive Officer, James Trail to inspect the existing facility and look over the refurbishment plans.
"Sharryn Jackson did a lot of hard work knocking on my door, and the Prime Minister's door in Canberra to secure these funds for the Ray Owen Sports Centre," Ms Ellis said.
"I am pleased the Rudd Government has delivered on this funding commitment and in time to host the recent under16 National Basketball Championships. I look forward to coming back again to see the completed refurbishment."
Ms Jackson said the Governments commitment of $180,000 would help transform the Ray Owen Sports Centre into one of Perth's leading sports venues, with matching funding being provided by the West Australian government and the Kalamunda Shire Council.
"The food preparation, kiosk and eating areas have been expanded and upgraded, including the construction of new viewing areas for spectators and families. The centre's amenities and storage areas are also being upgraded.
"Lesmurdie and the surrounding suburbs is an area with a high youth population and the Ray Own Centre is an important piece of community infrastructure.
"The Rudd Government recognises the need to support local sporting groups like the Kalamunda Districts Basketball Association and the Kalamunda Districts Netball Association. I am delighted we have secured the funding" Ms Jackson said.
