$700 000 to support and inspire young Australians
The Minister for Youth Kate Ellis today announced an extra $700,000 to help inspire, support and encourage young people across Australia.
The funding is part of the Rudd Government's Youth Development and Support Program, which funds community organisations to run projects that benefit young people.
"We had a great response to last year's call for ideas and there were many more fantastic proposals that we'd like to see become a reality," Ms Ellis said.
"That's why we're investing another $700, 000 in this program and investing in the future of young people," she said.
"The Youth Development and Support Program helps to inspire young Australians, encourages them to participate in their communities and helps promote positive perceptions of young people," Ms Ellis said.
The extra funding will support many more activities that will assist young people to become confident and resilient adults, with the skills and enthusiasm to contribute to Australian life.
The $700, 000 funding boost is being announced during National Youth Week as part of the first ever National Strategy for Young Australians.
The strategy is a guide for future Australian Government action to encourage and help young people take charge of their own lives. It highlights eight priority areas for Government action.
The strategy is the latest step in the Rudd Government's ongoing commitment to giving young people a voice and will help guide future government policy.
The successful Youth Development and Support Program recipients will be announced at www.youth.gov.au
