70 more high quality child care places for Killara
Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care Kate Ellis says Killara's new Early Learning and Care Centre has opened its doors to local children.
The Australian Government has invested $1.4 million in the centre at the Abbotsleigh School for Girls.
The centre will supply 70 new long day care places and about 30 children are already enjoying the high quality early childhood education and care offered at the centre.
"This is exciting news for the Killara community. It's one of the first mainstream centres to open and it will be followed by more centres across Australia in coming months.
"The first few years of a child's life set them on a road to adulthood we want that road to take them to good health, education and social development," Ms Ellis said.
"And that's exactly what can now happen for the children at this centre."
Locating the centre alongside the Abbotsleigh School for Girls will help prepare young children for the transition to school.
"Building Early Learning and Care Centres on school grounds helps children feel part of the broader school community before they even start formal schooling," she said.
"Ultimately this will help more children to become happy, confident learners."
The centre is one of eleven Early Learning and Care Centres, including one Autism Specific centre, to be established in New South Wales.
The Killara centre is part of the Australian Government's $114.5 million commitment to build 38 new Early Learning and Care Centres in priority locations across Australia.
The initiative is part of the Australian Government's Education Revolution to ensure Australia's early childhood care and education system is well placed to improve outcomes for children and their families.
