Prime Minister's challenge for Australia's Young People
The Minister for Youth Kate Ellis today announced that up to $15 000 will be available to young people for projects that will connect them with their local communities.
The Prime Minister's Australian Youth Forum Challenge is a new annual initiative to stimulate fresh ideas about how young people can connect with their communities.
"There's no better time than National Youth Week for us to be helping young people turn their ideas for a better future into a reality.
Young Australians are invited to propose projects that will get young people engaged in their community, actively address local needs and promote a positive image of young people.
Successful applicants will receive up to $15 000 to put their ideas into action and snapshots of entries and winning ideas will be documented on the AYF website www.youth.gov.au/ayf.
"I encourage young people from across Australia to put forward their ideas and help make real difference for young people in their area."
A panel of young people, youth sector workers and industry experts will shortlist the best ideas, with the Prime Minister and Minister for Youth choosing the ultimate winners.
"The Prime Minister's AYF Challenge supports the Australian Government's vision for all young people to grow up safe, healthy, happy and resilient," Ms Ellis said.
Applications for the Prime Minister's AYF Challenge close at 5 pm (AEST) Monday 10 May 2010.
