Yamanto Early Learning and Care Centre provides 75 new places
The Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care Kate Ellis today opened the new Yamanto Early Learning and Care Centre.
The Rudd Government has invested $1.6 million to co-locate the centre at Amberley District State School.
The Yamanto Early Learning and Care Centre will cater for up to 75 children and will provide high-quality early learning and care programs.
"This is exciting news for Yamanto's working families. It's one of the first centres to open its doors and will be followed by more centres across Australia in coming months.
"By being located at the school, the centre will also end the 'double drop off' for dozens of local parents and make caring for their children just that little bit easier," she said.
"The first few years of a child's life set them on a road to adulthood we want that road to take them to good health, education and social development," Ms Ellis said.
"And that's exactly what can now happen for the children at this centre."
Queensland Education Minister Geoff Wilson said locating the centre at Amberley District State School will help prepare young children for the transition to school.
"Building Early Learning and Care Centres on school grounds helps children feel part of the broader school community before they even start formal schooling," he said.
"This will help children get a flying start to their education and become happy, confident learners."
Yamanto Early Learning and Care Centre is one of five such centres now open across Australia. Six Early Learning and Care Centres will be established in Queensland, including one autism-specific centre.
The Australian Government is investing $114.5 million in 38 new Early Learning and Care Centres at priority locations across Australia, as part of the Education Revolution to ensure Australia's early childhood education system is well placed to improve outcomes for children and their families.
