FUNDING FOR PROSPECT OVAL REDEVELOPMENT
The Rudd Labor Government will provide $1.75 million for redevelopment of the grandstand at Prospect Oval in Adelaide.
Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, and Kate Ellis, Member for Adelaide, made the announcement in Adelaide today with the Mayor of the City of Prospect, David O'Loughlin.
Mr Albanese said that the project is expected to support 75 jobs during construction, as well as another 10 jobs over the longer term.
"It's worth over $3.6 million in total, delivering a real boost for the local economy.
"This is about creating jobs in the local economy today while delivering lasting benefits for the community," he said.
Ms Ellis said that local residents, sporting groups, footballers and spectators will all benefit from the redevelopment at Prospect Oval.
"Importantly, the City of Prospect is partnering with the City of Port Augusta to provide dedicated facilities to support Indigenous player development at the oval
"The oval is home to the North Adelaide Football Club and this redevelopment will provide first class infrastructure to support the team and local sporting groups," she said.
The City of Prospect will partner with the Corporation of the City of Port Augusta on the project which is expected to include:
 Redevelopment of the existing under-utilised grandstand;
 Construction of a brand new function area and gym facility; and
 Use of energy and water saving devices, environmentally friendly building materials and sustainable landscaping.
Mr Albanese said that the funding was part of the Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which was delivering a record $1 billion for nearly 5,000 projects across the nation.
"Across Australia, we are building and modernising community facilities in partnership with local government to support the economy while building community infrastructure for the future," he concluded.
The funding is conditional upon the council formalising a contract with the Government and meeting relevant conditions.
