FUNDING FOR VICTORIA PARK IN ADELAIDE
The Rudd Labor Government will provide nearly $1.3 million to build a new community sports and recreation precinct at the iconic Victoria Park in Adelaide.
Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, and Kate Ellis, Member for Adelaide, made the announcement in Adelaide today with the Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide, Michael Harbison.
Mr Albanese said that the project was worth more than $4.1 million in total.
"It is expected to support 37 jobs during construction, as well as another four jobs over the longer term, delivering an economic boost for Adelaide.
"And it will provide high quality sporting infrastructure for the community into the future," he said.
Ms Ellis said, "This project will breathe new life into Victoria Park and encourage local residents and the community to use the space."
The Adelaide City Council project is expected to include:
� Restoration of the Bakkabakkandi State heritage-listed grandstand;
� Site preparation, earthworks, landscaping, installation of electrical works and lighting and park furniture;
� Creation of a new multi-use high quality sports field; and
� Sustainability measures such as recycled water irrigation, high-efficiency flood lighting and landscaping suited to local conditions.
Mr Albanese said that the funding was part of the Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which was delivering a record $1 billion for nearly 5,000 projects across the nation.
Across Australia, we are building and modernising community facilities in partnership with local government.
The funding is conditional upon the council formalising a contract with the Government and meeting relevant conditions.
