THE HON KATE ELLIS MP
MINISTER FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION,
CHILD CARE AND YOUTH
MEDIA RELEASE
23 June 2010
Rudd Government support for university research in Adelaide
Member for Adelaide, Kate Ellis has welcomed the announcement that researchers at the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia will soon commence research on 14 new projects, thanks to funding from the Australian Government.
The University of Adelaide has been awarded over $2.5 million and the University of South Australia will receive almost $900,000 to contribute to the national research effort.
"This research is helping Australia to tackle the challenges and grasp the opportunities, of today and the future," Ms Ellis said.
"This is great news for Adelaide's local universities and great news for Australian innovation."
"These grants are extremely competitive and are only awarded to projects of the highest caliber. I am proud that these world class projects and groundbreaking research will be taking place in Adelaide".
These projects have been made possible with support from the Australian Research Council's Linkage Projects scheme. The Linkage Projects scheme enables Australian universities to undertake innovative and cutting-edge research projects in partnership with industry.
The projects are a result of partnerships with a number of national and international, Government, private and non-profit organisations. Each partner is contributing a significant amount of cash and in-kind support, on top of the Australian Government's funding.
"Through grant programs like this, the Australian Government is nurturing the creative abilities and skills of Adelaide's most promising researchers," Ms Ellis said.
"I congratulate the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia and look forward to seeing the results of this exciting research."
For this round of funding, a total of 32 higher education institutions are receiving over $66.7 million for 218 research projects.
Further details about the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia projects are attached and a summary of the 218 successful projects is available on the ARC Linkage Projects web pages
