20 JULY 2010
Member for Adelaide Kate Ellis has today called on the community to support a campaign for a new GP Super Clinic to be built in Adelaide.
Kate Ellis said Adelaide families deserve the best quality health services in their local area and a GP Super Clinic will help to deliver that.
"I'll be fighting hard to ensure we get a GP Super Clinic in Adelaide and I would urge members of the community to join me in that fight," Kate said.
"They can support the push for a GP Super Clinic in Adelaide by calling my office and getting their name on a petition which will help me show how much families need this service in our area."
The Gillard Government has already committed $275 million to build and upgrade 36 GP Super Clinics across the country.
"Funding for an extra 23 GP Super Clinics was committed in the 2010-11 Budget and one of those should be in Adelaide, Kate said.
"Super Clinics take pressure off public hospitals and provide more integrated care for patients."
"They also help to attract health professionals to areas of need and give our health professionals of the future more training options."
"The Gillard Labor Government is working to move the nation forward by investing in health care, education and infrastructure and supporting Australian jobs."
"By contrast, the Coalition's record on health is clear Tony Abbott cut $1 billion from public hospitals when he was Health Minister."
"What's worse, Tony Abbott has said he'll axe GP Super Clinics if elected he doesn't understand these are the services that working families rely on."
Members of the public can find out how to sign the petition for an Adelaide GP Super Clinic by calling the Office of Kate Ellis on 08 8269 2433.
