MISSION AUSTRALIA TO PROVIDE KEY SERVICES TO ADELAIDE'S LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED
Member for Adelaide, Kate Ellis, today opened Mission Australia's new Job Services Australia office in Adelaide.
Mission Australia has a great track record of delivering services to the disadvantaged and unemployed in Adelaide, including helping find jobs for retrenched Bridgestone workers.
"These new premises have brought together a range of services into a single, central location to help the most disadvantaged job seekers," Kate Ellis said.
"Finding jobs for people with serious barriers is not simple and often requires long term and sustained efforts. Mission Australia's services in Adelaide have shown they are in it for the long haul."
Minister for Employment Participation, Mark Arbib, said one of the key reasons the Gillard Labor Government introduced the new Job Services Australia last year was to put a greater focus on helping people with significant barriers to employment.
"In South Australia, Job Service Australia providers have assisted 36,000 job seekers into employment since July last year," Mark Arbib said.
"Job Services Australia was central to Federal Labor's integrated approach to addressing the global economic downturn."
Kate Ellis said Mission Australia is also delivering other Federal Government services and projects under the Indigenous Employment Panel, Disability Employment Services, Innovation Panel, Jobs Fund and the National Green Jobs Corp.
"This will help to coordinate and target the efforts of Mission Australia to better match the labour needs of employers with appropriate job seekers," Kate Ellis said.
Job Services Australia providers help job seekers with training, skills development, work experience and job placement.
These services are part of the Gillard Labor Government's commitment to delivering better and more targeted employment services to job seekers across Australia.
