Today the Government is introducing its child care changes to the Parliament for the third time, without fixing the problems raised by Labor and stakeholders more than 18 months ago.
This comes after Simon Birmingham yesterday admitted problems with the unfair activity test and the closure of Indigenous and country services were still unresolved – but said he is re-introducing the changes to Parliament anyway.
The problems with the Government’s child care changes have been exposed by two Senate inquiries, repeatedly pointed out by Labor, and raised by early childhood experts and the sector.
The Government have been fully aware of these shortcomings for too long. There are no more excuses. It’s time the serious flaws with Malcom Turnbull’s child care changes were fixed.
To propose changes with such serious flaws once could be forgiven as a mistake, but to do it three times shows the Liberals simply do not care about the most vulnerable children in Australia.
This Government is asking the Parliament to pass cuts to parents, to families and to pensioners in order to pay for a package they haven’t even bothered to fix.
