The traditional gift for a second anniversary is cotton. In a break in tradition, Tony Abbott is marking the second anniversary of his election with a bucketload of broken promises on education.
Exactly two years ago Tony Abbott told the Australian public that there would be:
“No cuts to education.”
TONY ABBOTT - NATIONAL PRESS CLUB - 2 SEPTEMBER 2013
But all his Government has delivered since are savage cuts which will leave every student in every classroom worse off.
Tony Abbott has ripped $30 billion from school funding over the next 10 years, an average cut of $3.2 million per school and the same as sacking one in seven teachers.
He has cut $950 million from the Trade Training Centres in schools program – the equivalent of 650 new Trade Training Centres – at a time when Australia’s young people are finding it tougher than ever to find a job.
If you look in the dictionary under “hollow words” you should find a picture of Tony Abbott – all he has delivered are broken promises for Australia’s schools and Australia deserves better.
