Malcolm Turnbull will want today’s visit to Penrith to be a mission of redemption – but Australians won’t forget that this is the place where he revealed damaging plans to dump responsibility for public education.
The last time Malcolm Turnbull was in Penrith he stood on a footy field and casually announced that he wanted to stop funding public schools.
His plan might have been delayed by the States and Territories, but since then locked in $29 billion in cuts to education and used his first Budget to destroy the Gonski reforms.
Malcolm Turnbull will cut schools funding and spend $50 billion on a tax break for big business.
He doesn’t have an ounce of credibility about jobs and growth while he is ripping billions out of education.
In contrast, Labor is putting people first and investing in every school because we know that an investment in education is an investment in Australia’s future.
