Reports today reveal the Liberals’ nanny trial is failing to win the support of Australian parents, with just 186 families taking part.
This is despite Scott Morrison’s initial promise that the $250 million program that would reach 10,000 children.
Official Senate Estimates figures show just 473 children are part of the trial and only $1.4 million in support has been provided to families.
“It’s patently clear the nannies program is a complete flop,’’ Kate Ellis, Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Development, said.
“Families are voting with their feet, with less than 1 per cent of the trial’s budget taken up.
“The Liberals should invest this money in fixing their proposed child care changes instead of over-promising and under-delivering for families.”
“If they can’t even get this trial right, it raises serious questions about their other child care changes, which are set to cost taxpayers $3 billion and leave one in three families worse off."
