Malcolm Turnbull has today admitted his Government has no childcare policy, abandoning the Nanny Pilot Program his Treasurer announced during his brief reign as Social Services Minister in 2015.

Despite promising 10,000 children would participate, Scott Morrison has today admitted just 500 places will remain in his signature program.

“The two year Interim Home Based Carer Subsidy Programme represents the first major tranche of the Abbott Government’s new child care package and will provide subsidised care for about 10,000 children”

“It’s now clear that this was only ever about making Scott Morrison look good, not making life easier for Australian families,” Kate Ellis, Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Development, said.

“Beyond the failed nanny program, Mr Turnbull has delivered absolutely nothing for families, except rising fees and long waiting lists.

“Malcolm Turnbull is completely out of touch with the family budget.

“Parents need child care relief now, not more chaos and dysfunction from a government that simply doesn’t understand how hard it is to balance work and family and couldn’t care less about early education.”
