There is new hope for the victims of dodgy VET providers, with the Government finally bowing to Labor’s pressure and allowing the Commonwealth Ombudsman to investigate complaints.
Establishing a VET loans ombudsman in long-standing Labor policy.
It comes on top of concerns raised by the Australian Government Actuary, that $1.2 billion in VET loans have been inappropriately issued.
“Malcolm Turnbull had to be dragged kicking-and-screaming to do the right thing and set this ombudsman up,” Kate Ellis, Shadow Minister for TAFE and Vocational Education, said.
“Despite calls from students and the sector, he was only shamed into acting when Labor moved amendments in the Parliament.
“Dodgy providers that have broken the rules deserve to pay the price, not thousands of innocent students.”
Complaints to the Commonwealth Ombudsman can be made by calling 1300 362 072 or filling in the online form.
